Special Living Communities

2011-2012 theme housing

When you come to HSU, you can arrange to live in a residence hall organized around a theme. We call them "Theme Housing ." Theme Housing gives you a chance to hang out and learn for a year alongside people who share your interests.

By living with others who are passionate about the same things, you can explore new ideas and truly examine your chosen area of interest. Take a minute to explore the Theme Housing offered at HSU:

Outdoor Adventures + Community Service

In collaboration with on-campus partners Center Activities, OACS residents participate in a series of outdoor adventure trips throughout the year to establish community and build lasting friendships. Past adventure trips include: sea kayaking, rock climbing, river rafting, surfing and backpacking. When OACS residents aren’t out adventuring, they have the opportunity to participate in various community service activities, such as volunteering at a soup kitchen, cleaning up local beaches or helping with the harvest at the Potowat Health Garden.

The success of the OACS community is due to the students who participate and their passion for outdoor activities and community service. A non-refundable participation fee of $275 covers the costs associated with two outdoor adventure trips (one river rafting in the early fall and one other trip during the academic year) and subsidizes the cost of the annual OACS Ski Trip in January.
