The Chinese Studies Program offers unique opportunities to study Chinese, China’s ancient civilization, and its contemporary culture. At present four levels of Chinese are offered, which, in combination with seminars such as Chinese Cinema, Chinese Language Origins, and Chinese Belief Systems, form an integral part of the program and important preparation for participating in the Chinese Exchange Program. Students who spend an academic year in China return with highly functional language skills and a rich knowledge of Chinese society. Students are able to pursue a minor and will eventually be able to pursue a major in Chinese Language and Culture.

The minor in Chinese Studies, housed in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, is characterized by its interdisciplinary nature. It consists of a minimum of 26 credit units including core and elective classes. The minor program gives students a language experience and solid cultural base upon which to build an understanding of Chinese culture and society. Selection of courses is to be made with the counsel of a Chinese Studies faculty advisor.
