In trying to solve the age-old problem of when to schedule training for back to school for maximum participation, the Moodle staff came up with the idea of Moodle and a Muffin.

Faculty members were invited to drop in anytime for help but, for those who came in between 8 and 10 am, free muffins were provided. Traditionally, classroom trainings are what might be politely called “lightly attended”; adding muffins to the mix produced four times more participants than the previous semester’s sessions. 

The training offered included a refresher Introduction to Moodle for existing Faculty, Introduction for NEW Faculty members, a Gradebook Orientation and Overview, and an Introduction to Clickers. As an added bonus, attendees at the Clicker sessions received a free Clicker and Receiver set as well as a run-through to introduce the program.

This new approach been so well received that we will continue to offer drop-in training in addition to the regularly scheduled trainings we provide through HR; we’ll also be offering Elluminate Introduction and Refreshers for Faculty and Administrators through the end of February, so sign up today!

Not counting the muffins that the staff ate, 21 muffins were served to participating trainees. The project was made possible by a thoughtful Holiday gift, so no campus money was involved in the project.
