Brown Bag Session: Process Terminology

Date: Friday September 26, 2014

Time: Noon-1pm

Location: Gist Hall 211C (Lab)

Session Leader: Phil Rouse

When you’re working through business processes, it’s all too easy to slip into jargon and acronyms that, while they are second nature to you, may be misunderstood by or completely incomprehensible to others involved with the process. This Brown Bag session will discuss strategies to clarify the language and terminology used to identify and describe business processes.

We’ll cover topics like:

Welcome new project coordinator Billie Herman

Billie Herman joined the IT Project Office today as a project coordinator alongside Sabre Stacey, filling our last empty seat. Here's a quick Q&A I did with her to give you all an idea of who she is and what she's about before you stop by to say "hi".

Process Improvement Tips

Tips & Tricks

Try incorporating these tips and tricks into your everyday activities and you should start to see things improve, even without any formal training sessions. If you've come across anything that has really worked well for you, send it on over to Josh Smith and we'll include it on this page.

Process Improvement Offerings

Three types of consultations are available from the Process Improvement team. Generally, an Open Session will point the way towards a work session or a training session as your next step. Click the Training Sessions or Work Sessions heading for more detailed information about these offerings.

When you're ready to schedule a session - or you need advice on what the most appropriate first step would be - please call the Process Improvement team at (707) 826-5081 or (707) 826-5097.

Process Improvement Services

In the fall of 2013, the ITS Project Office added structured process improvement strategies to the project management process to ensure that improved customer service, increased productivity, and decreased costs result from technology projects. By focusing on the improvement of underlying processes, the campus will benefit from a more solid and effective foundation on which to build future technology projects.

The Project Proposal Process: From Request to Prioritization

Twice a year, the ITS Project Office issues a call for project proposals. These proposals are then scored by the Project Prioritization Steering Committee and assessed for feasibility in terms of funds and resources. Once this process has been completed, the committee makes its recommendations to the University Vice Presidents, who in turn make the final decision on which projects get the green light, which need further work, and which will not be acted upon at this time.
