Wireless :: Regular Wireless Access Overview

HSU's regular wireless is similar to the public wifi services at airports and coffee shops. Speed and performance are generally good, but users will not be able to access certain areas of the HSU wired network, such as departmental fileshares and wired printers, without the use of a VPN connection.

Wireless :: Security Requirements

Humboldt State University uses network access control (NAC) software to provide more secure and reliable network access for everyone on campus. This means that, when you first request to connect to the wireless network, you will be asked to download and install a small software program called the SafeConnect PolicyKey. The program checks to to make sure your system is in compliance with HSU's Appropriate Use Policy before you connect to the network, and will remain on your system until such time as you don't connect to the network for a 60-day period (eg over the summer).

1. Client Security Agent (CSA) Download

Please enter your HSU User Name and Password then select your device type. Click the button to download Client Security Agent (CSA) on your machine.

Wireless :: Windows Vista Registration Instructions

1. Connect to the Campus Wireless Network

Enable wireless networking on your computer and connect to HSUWireless using the icon in your System Tray. A pop-up will appear in your System Tray informing you that additional log on information may be required.

2. Download Client Security Agent (CSA)

Please enter your HSU User Name and Password then select your device type. Click the button to download Client Security Agent (CSA) on your machine.

Wireless :: Mac OS X Registration Instructions

Step 1: Connect to the Campus Wireless Network

Enable wireless networking on your Mac and connect to HSUWireless.

Open a web browser

Step 2: Once you are connected to HSUWireless, open a web browser.

Wireless :: Linux Registration Instructions

Once you connect to the HSUWireless network and attempt to navigate to a web page, you will see an HSU log on screen.

  1. Log in with your HSU User Name and Password.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the registration process.

On completion of the registration process, you should be able to browse the Internet freely.
