In a word, no. If you disable or remove your antivirus, you're not only making your computer instantly vulnerable to millions of threats, but you also will no longer be able to connect your machine to any HSU network.
All commercial antivirus software lets you configure the system to download updates automatically as soon as they're available. If you're using Sophos Anti-Virus, you'll also see an email from ITS or a notice in University Notices when an upgrade to the software is available. You should also make sure your operating system and any applications you use regularly (especially browsers and media players) are set to alert you whenever updates are available. The Technology Help Desk can assist you with this if necessary.
While HSU does recommend Sophos Anti-Virus as meeting all the requirements for securely logging on to campus networks, a number of other popular antivirus programs are acceptable. Check the list to see if your preferred antivirus is on it.
