In consultation with users from each University division, ITCs determine on an annual basis three levels of computer hardware standard: base systems, expandable mid-range systems, and advanced (high-end) systems. Across the three levels, users can choose from five desktop PC models, five notebook PC models, and a number of different iMac and Macbook models. The final decision about which model to purchase is made by the area funding the purchase, as the cost is dependent on that area's budget.
Click the appropriate QuickLink to the right for more specifics on available models.
In some circumstances, more advanced or specialized models may be purchased, but only for the mid-range and higher-end systems. The standard base PC system, currently priced at $600, is the minimum specification for a supported PC and is adequate for typical day-to-day use.
Staff and faculty are strongly encouraged to make use of these agreements for all PC and printer purchasing needs. Not only will budgets benefit, but users will also get faster, better technical support.
