Below you'll find brief instructions for configuring your Windows, Mac, or Linux system to print using Pay-for-Print.

Before you start, make sure you have money on your c-card! You can add money at the Housing and Dining Cashier’s Office or online. Your c-card account is tied to your HSU User Name and Password, so you don't need to swipe your card to access your account.

Windows

1. Select File > Print in the application you're printing from. In this example, we're using Wordpad. It's a good idea to select Print Preview from the File menu to make sure you're printing the right document and that the appearance of the document is acceptable before committing to spend money on printing.

2. Select a printer from the Print window. Note that CutePDF Writer and Microsoft ImagePrint are not physical printers and only generate electronic documents, so if you don't have funds on your c-card, you may wish to print your document to PDF and email it to yourself or copy it to a USB drive for printing at a later time.

3. The Pay-for-Print dialog box appears, showing the cost of your print job, your available c-card funds, and any credits on your account. Click OK to accept the charges and start printing, or Cancel to cancel the print job. If you don't click anything, the dialog box closes automatically, the print request is cancelled, and no fee is charged after 20 seconds of inactivity. To re-initiate the print job, start again at Step 1.

Linux

Print your jobs as you normally would; they will be held at the Release Station. Start the Release Station after you've logged in to Linux by typing "pr" (for print release) at the command line as in the example below:

HSU-AD\[your HSU User Name]@[name of lab station]:~> pr

example: HSU-AD\dem1@scid15-lab19:~> pr

The pr command will open the Release Station login screen. Alternatively, you can open the Release Stating login screen by clicking the Print Release icon.

The pr command will always work, but the Print Release icon may not always be visible on the desktop, depending on the XWINDOW/environment version you're running.
