In addition to your abc123@humboldt.edu [1] email address (your preferred email address), you can also use firstname.lastname@humboldt.edu; this is known as your formal email alias [2] and is assigned automatically for faculty and staff. All emails sent to your formal email alias will automatically be redirected to your preferred email address so that all your mail is delivered to a single email inbox.
You have the option to change your formal email alias if your formal name in the HSU database is not the name you normally use, and to set up two additional informal email aliases, for example for use in connection with a specific project.
You can choose to create up to two informal email aliases. These must be HSU addresses ending in @humboldt.edu and will be changed if they are not submitted in this format. Simply enter your preferred informal email alias in the box and click the Create Email Alias button. Informal aliases are assigned on a first come, first served basis and cannot be the same as any existing address or alias. If your preferred alias is available, it will be accepted by the system; if it is already in use by someone else, you will be asked to suggest a different alias. Changes may take several hours to take effect.
You may change or delete these aliases at any time, but be aware that once you change or delete an alias, it is immediately available for use by someone else. If you have given the alias to others as an email address and then deleted it, mail sent to the alias will be returned to the sender as undeliverable until someone else re-uses that alias.
The use of Humboldt State University informal email aliases service is a privilege, not a right. As such, the privilege may be revoked at any time if an account holder creates an alias that reflects negatively on the University or which may convey inaccurate or inappropriate information to the recipient of an email message. An example could be an email alias that is created which implies the sender represents an office of the University or holds a position with the University that he or she does not hold.
