Web :: The Easiest Way to move Your Site

After you ensure your site meets accessibility standards, migrating your site is as simple as downloading your current site, changing the settings of your site management tool (Dreamweaver [1], SFTP [2], etc.) and uploading your site to the new server.

If you already have and use Dreamweaver:

1. Synchronize (download or get) the entire site to your local computer.
2. Edit the Remote Info of your Site Definition (Site > Manage Sites > Edit) to match these settings:
   a. Server Address: www.humboldt.edu
   b. Host directory: sitename/public_html
   c. Check the Use Secure FTP box for secure authentication.
   d. Use YOUR HSU User Name [3] & Password
3. Synchronize (upload or put) your entire site to the new server.

If you use SFTP:

1. Connect to Sorrel (the old server):
   a. Server Address: sorrel.humboldt.edu
   b. Use the account user name & password
2. Download (or get) the entire site to your local computer (you may just need the contents of the public_html folder)
3. Connect to the new server:
   a. Server Address: www.humboldt.edu
   b. Use YOUR HSU User Name & Password
4. Navigate to sitename/public_html
5. Upload (or put) your entire site to the new server (if you had items outside of the public_html folder, you should put those in the nonweb_directory).

If you use some other program (NVU, FrontPage, etc.):

Use the same steps and settings described above.

If you don’t know what you had before:

Follow the instructions for using SFTP. Contact your ITC [4] for recommendations on editing your site in the future.
