The ITS Project Office has prepared a set of guidelines to help staff and faculty navigate the HSU software acquisition process. By following the advice and guidance in this document, you can be sure that you're dotting all the necessary i's and crossing all the necessary t's in your quest to identify and acquire software that will enable you to achive your goals.
While we don't handle the actual purchase on your behalf, we're happy to walk you through the process and help you to answer any of the questions you're not sure how to answer.
The most important part of the process of software acquisition is to define the problem you're trying to solve and list the "must-have" requirements for any solution. That way, you're more likely to stay on track and not get diverted by what any particular vendor wants to sell you. You also need a project team of representative stakeholders - including members of your IT team.
You have your collective ears to the ground in terms of technology developments on campus, so pay close attention to the list of requirements your academic or administrative colleagues puts together. We can save a lot of time, money and resources by adapting something that is already here rather than buying something new.
The IT Project Office Guide to Successful Software Acquisition is available for download from the ITS website
Use the information in the guide to develop your own process and supporting documents. Contact the IT Project Office at itspo@humboldt.edu or call us at (707) 826-5080 if you have questions about the process.
The CSU Policy Manual for Contracting and Procurement governs the process for software acquisition.
