Sophos Anti-Virus is freely available for everyone associated with the University to use on campus and on their personal devices. Up-to-date virus protection is a pre-requisite for network and Internet access on campus.
UPDATE: While we are in the process of switching all HSU-owned systems from Sophos Anti-Virus to Microsoft's System Center Endpoint Protection, the free license to use Sophos Anti-Virus on personal devices remains valid until April 2014, so there's no need to make changes to the virus protection on your personal devices at this time.
Sophos Anti-Virus runs on Windows and Macintosh computers. You'll need one of the following operating systems to install it:
ITS does not provide support for Sophos Anti-Virus. Please contact the vendor for assistance with the software.
Review the comprehensive security information for IT staff.
For University-owned computers, ITS personnel will ensure that protection is installed, configured, and kept updated.
For users of University-owned equipment, your antivirus protection is kept up-to-date and properly configured by ITS.
If you are running Sophos Anti-Virus on your personal computer, you should make sure the software is configured to download updates automatically and download a new version when you're reminded to do so by University Notices and/or emails from the ITS office.
For University-owned computers, ITS will ensure that protection is installed, configured, and kept updated.
