Humboldt State University recommends the use of the CyberDuck or Fugu for OS X to upload files securely. Please download and install your preferred application before following the instructions below to transfer a file.

The following instructions are based on CyberDuck v2.8 and Fugu v1.2.0. Advanced users may use the command line to connect to the server if they wish.

Note: Command line access is not allowed on the Central Web Server for terminal or SSH connections.

CyberDuck

To use CyberDuck to set up an SFTP connection to the HSU Central Web Server, follow these steps:

1. Open CyberDuck
2. Click "Open Connection"
3. Enter the following information:
   1. Protocol: SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer)
   2. Server: www.humboldt.edu
   3. UserName: Your HSU User Name (e.g., abc123)
   4. Password: Your HSU Password
4. Click "Connect"

You may find it useful to save this connection information so that you can easily find it the next time you need to use it. Here's how:

1. Click Bookmark > New Bookmark
2. Give your connection a Nickname (Central HSU Web Server or something else that's easily identifiable).
3. Close the window to save your settings (Click on the Red X in the top left-hand corner of the screen)
4. The next time you want to get to your HSU folder, open CyberDuck and select Bookmarks > Central HSU Web Server (or whatever name you gave the connection).

Fugu

To use Fugu to set up an SFTP connection to the HSU Central Web Server, follow these steps:

1. Open Fugu.
2. Enter the following information:
   1. Connect to : www.humboldt.edu
   2. Username: Your HSU Use Name (e.g., abc123)
   3. Port: 22
3. Click "Add to Favorites"
4. Click "Connect"
5. Enter your HSU Password.

The next time you want to access your HSU folder, open Fugu, select users.humboldt.edu from the "Connect To:" drop-down menu, and click "Connect."

Command Line Access

To set up an SFTP connection to the HSU Central Web Server from the command line, follow these steps:

1. Open Terminal by selecting Go > Utilities > Terminal
2. Type: sftp <HSU UserName>@www.humboldt.edu <replacing HSU UserName with your HSU User Name> and hit Enter
3. Enter the password associated with your HSU User Name.
