Academics
The core strength of our program — the skills courses — provide experience in news gathering and public relations. Our classes are small so that students receive individual attention
Major
When you major in Journalism and Mass Communication, you specialize in one of the following areas:
- News Editorial — for those majors interested in careers in newspapers, magazines, photography or online industries.
- Broadcast News — for those majors interested in radio or television journalism.
- Public Relations — for those majors who wish to respresent an organization to the news media.
- Media Studies — for those who wish to study and analyze the media.
Minor
You can also minor in Journalism and Mass Communication in the same areas above. Journalism majors are encouraged to complete a minor in another discipline. For example, if you would like to create Web media, you might consider a second major or minor in computing sciences.
Consult the HSU Catalog for more information about our programs.
Practical Experience
Students here have opportunities to gain practical experience through internships and our in-house print and broadcast media production.
