Biography: 

Dr. Chris Hopper is an Emeritus professor of Kinesiology. He has served in a variety of administrative positions at Humboldt since he arrived on campus in 1980. Most recently he was the Department Chair of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration. He has also completed administrative assignments as the Associate Dean for the College of Professional Studies, Dean of the College of Professional Studies, and the Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and International Programs. He has written six books and published his research on children’s health and fitness in peer-reviewed journals. He was selected as the Scholar of the Year at Humboldt in 2014-15. Dr. Hopper has been a successful grant writer to support programs at Humboldt with 16 funded projects at Humboldt including three projects over one million dollars in funding. His current projects include a professional preparation program in adapted physical education funded by the United States Department of Education and a Forest Service Wellness Leadership Certificate funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. He currently serves as a reviewer of grant applications for the National Institutes of Health and has served as a Chair of the Small Business Innovation Research Panel. He is a member of the Board of Institutional Reviewers for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and manages the teacher education accreditation for the Humboldt.
