This self assessment is designed to help you decide if the Leadership Studies online program at Cal Poly Humboldt is a good fit for your educational goals. This assessment is for your own informational purposes and is not required for enrollment. For additional help deciding whether this program is a worthwhile option for you, please e-mail.

Admissions Requirements

You are considered an upper division transfer student and are eligible to apply as long as you have met all other requirements for admissions.

Program Fees and Budgeting

If you are paying for the program, make sure you create a budget to ensure that you have funds to complete the program. (Current fees (2015-2016) are $299 per units, or $897 per 3-unit course.) When you are calculating total cost, remember to include all coursework, not just the Leadership courses.
Make sure that you communicate with your employer to see what funding is available to you, and how funds are disbursed.

Leadership Studies Program

The Leadership Studies program offers asynchronous courses, which means you can access your courses on your own schedule. However you will be required to log in regularly to meet deadlines for coursework and projects.
Students are expected to devote the same amount of time for an online course as they'd spend in a regular on-site course. Online courses can be more rigorous than face-to-face classes, due to reading requirements and online discussions. It is expected that you will spend 18-20 hours per week on each Leadership Studies course.
The Leadership Studies program is designed for adults who hope to advance in their careers into leadership positions that require a college degree.

Good! Success in online courses relies heavily on your ability to regularly access your course and use apps to create documents that you will submit for grading.
Make sure to find out the hardware/apps requirements for the course you will be taking and check with your friend/computer lab to verify that it meets your requirements. Also be sure that your study schedule matches when you'll be able to access your friend/computer lab computer.

Online classes center around reading and writing. If this is a struggle, you will have more success taking online courses once you've improved your skills. Check with your school's writing center or equivalent to see what resources are available to you.
