General Education Units

Area A = (9 lower division units) To include:

  • ENGL 100 –First Year Reading & Composition (3)
  • COMM 100 – Fundamentals of Speech Communication (3)
  • Critical Thinking (3)

Area B = (9 lower division units) At least 3 units in each of the 3 categories (one must have a laboratory)

  • Life Forms (BIO 104 or 105)
  • Math Concepts & Quantitative Reasoning
  • Physical Universe (GEOL 108 or 109, or OCN 109)

Area C = See catalog list Arts, literature, philosophy, modern languages (9 lower division units from at least 3 different areas)

Area D = See catalog list. Human, social, political, economic institutions & behavior ( not more than one course from any one area)

Area E = Lifelong understanding & integration of self

Must have a "C-" or better in all major requirements.

LSEE Depth of Study Areas

All LSEE students are required to take 9 units of a depth of study area. Depth of Study areas are: American Indian Education, Mathematics, Science, Studio Art, History/Social Sciences, Teaching English as a Second Language, Human Development: Child Development or Psychology, Music, Creative Dramatics, Spanish, or Physical Education. Depth of Study

LSEE students may also want to earn a Subject Matter Authorization in a core subject area of English, Math, Arts, Physical Education, Languages, and Science.
