
Graduate Application Instructions
Admission Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or related fields including a background in Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Differential equations, and an upper division course in Probability and Statistics . Deficiencies in any of these areas may be rectified with approved graduate or undergraduate courses. Students with a strong quantitative background holding BA or BS degrees in a related field will be considered, but may be required to take additional course work before beginning their graduate courses. (e.g., Matlab).
Application Deadlines:
- For fall semester admission:
- ALL application materials must be received by February 15, 2012
- For spring semester admission:
- ALL application materials must be received by Oct. 15
- Meeting all deadlines is one way of showing that you are both serious and conscientious, however late applications may be accepted under some circumstances. International Applicants:
International applicants must follow a different application process from domestic students. For details, please follow the guidelines on the HSU Office of International Programs. By following the links, you can get a step-by-step guide to completing your application. The GRE requirement may be waived for international students.
Step-by-step Instructions:
- Complete the CSU Postbaccalaureate and Graduate Admission packet. This admission packet may be filed electronically (on-line) or a completed hard copy may be mailed.
- SEND your completed admission packet AND a check to cover the application filing fee (currently $55) to the Office of Admissions (see address below).
- Arrange to have an official report of your GRE scores sent to: Office of Admissions (address below). You must also include the following codes:
- Institution Code for Humboldt State University: 4345
- Humboldt State GRE Department Code for a major Applied Mathematics: 0702
- Contact ALL previous colleges that you have attended and your current college and arrange for each of them to send an OFFICIAL transcript to: Office of Admissions (see address below)
- Send a detailed Statement of Purpose to: Secretary Environmental Systems Graduate Program. Your statement should (a) express your reasons for pursuing a MS degree; and (b) if you know of them, identify potential research areas that are of interest to you.
- Have at least two (preferably three) letters of recommendations sent to: Secretary, Environmental Systems Graduate Program. At least one of these letters should be from a former university instructor who may judge your promise as a graduate student. Letters can be included with the application or sent separately. Fax or electronic copies may be sent, but they must be followed by original copies sent via regular mail.
- Send a resume of your work experience to: Secretary, Environmental Systems Graduate Program.
