Keith Reagan loves being in the HSU library. "Libraries are so cool. It's a wonderful space. And books... they're comforting."
Two decades ago, Keith started his career in a New Hampshire state college after he and his wife threw caution to the wind and moved east after living in L.A.
"I had never worked in a library before. But I'm a writer. I've always had an affinity for books. So I applied there."
After spending more than a decade in New England, it was time for Keith to leave. But it wasn't the work that drove him off. It was the weather.
"We spent a dozen winters in the snow. We were sick of the snow."
With the years of experience he gained in New Hampshire, it wasn't difficult for Keith to get a position in the library at College of the Redwoods in Eureka. There, he learned more about automated library systems, which he continues to put to use since moving to the HSU Library.
For five years, Keith has overseen the ONCORES (Online Course Reserves) system at the HSU library. He and his student staff work together to digitize course material and make it available online. For every semester, Keith estimates that he and his team digitize an average of 500 to 1,000 postings.
In addition to ONCORES, Keith also helps out at the Circulation Desk and with "general running around, as needed."
"When I'm doing ONCORES, I'm mainly interacting with faculty. But when I'm working the Circulation Desk it's mostly students. They're both fun. I really enjoy it. There are a lot of really good people here."
While he enjoys problem solving, when Keith needs a break from work he can always go home to his wife, his cat Sylkie, his own personal library and, of course, the music of The Beatles.
"I love The Beatles. It's an illness."
