Two words that friends would use to describe Cheryl "Cher" Wheeler are dependable and loyal. Dependable because she always does what she says she will and loyal because she is always there for everyone.
Cher has been with the music department since 1981 and with HSU since 1975, and in that time she's even won the president's staff recognition award.
Creative landscaping and kayaking are things Cher likes to do in her spare time as well as traveling with her husband though "Space A" travel, a benefit for military personal and families that provides free air travel on a space available basis. "My husband is retired from the Air Force, so we get to fly "Space A" to anywhere." She hopes to fly to New Zealand, Australia, Italy and anywhere else "Space A" will take them.
Cher and her husband also run their own business, Bear Wallow Glove Company, manufacturing elbow length gardening gloves. "I love to grow roses," Cher says. "But I was always getting scratched by thorns. My husband searched for long gloves for me, but when he couldn't find them he made me some. We started our business from there." The couple regularly travels to home and garden shows displaying their hard work.
About the music department Cher says, "I love music. Calypso speaks to my soul. I love blue grass and most other music as well."
