Why did you choose HSU?

The environmental science program was unlike any other I had seen at other CSU's and was exactly what I was looking for in a program.

How do you have fun in Humboldt County?

I love to hunt for edible mushrooms, cook, surf, hike, hang out on the Trinity, garden and more, there is so much to do in this area!

What will you always remember about HSU?

How eclectic the people are, you could really go to class wearing a banana suit and most people would not look twice, it's awesome!

What are you passionate about?

Food and water policy!

Outdoor spot you love?

The Trinity river, I have a friend with river front property. In trade for working in her veggie garden she lets me stay in the cabin and enjoy the area. It's truly one of the most incredible areas in California.

What has been your best experience at HSU?

All of it, but most of all working with campus clubs like Take Back the Tap, who helped me make lifelong friends. I have become so much more connected and confident on campus thanks to Take Back the Tap. The people I have worked with have also been truly inspirational in my life.

Most fascinating thing have you learned recently?

With the events in Cairo, it's fascinating to me that democratic revolutions are attainable.

What are you plans after graduation?

First thing I am headed to Indonesia on a trip with my boyfriend and brother. I am also working on applications to graduate school. I would either like to stay here within the Environment and Community graduate program or head to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for their Masters of Public Policy program.

What's your favorite class at HSU?

They were all amazing but PSCI 352: Water Politics, may have been the most eye opening and enjoyable. Mark Baker was the professor and he really knew his stuff. He pushed all of us to help lead the class also since there are so many issues pertaining to water.

Who was your favorite professor? Why?

Mark Baker, he was so very informed and enthusiastic about the material. It is obvious in his teaching style that he really wants to help students out and push them in the right direction, and I think at times we all need a little nudge.

Have any tips for new students?

My best advice is to join a club, there are so many to choose from and when involved you make so many great friends and have the opportunity to bond with staff and faculty. Also there are often great opportunities to travel with clubs and broaden your horizons, going to conferences and other campuses can be a blast!

What was the best thing you did last summer?

While working on the Trinity garden I learned how to preserve food, everything from peaches to tomatoes and now I have a pantry full of delicious healthy treats that I helped harvest!
