Monica knew she wanted to work in the music industry since she was in middle school and began freelance writing when she was in high school. She is currently a disc jockey for KSLG (a local modern rock radio station) and has done news for KRFH, Humboldt State’s student radio station.
"So far, I think Zoe Walrond's Radio News Experience has been my favorite class. Doing KRFH News gave me a taste of a part of radio that I hadn't gotten to experience, yet."
"I go out to a lot of live rock shows. We have an incredible music scene around here and that's really one of my favorite things about living in this area. The bands and venues never cease to amaze me."
"My post-grad plans are hopefully to keep working in radio and expand my freelance writing and photography outlets. Ideally, I'll get on with a national publication for which I can write and photograph bands, from close to home. A little bit of travel might be nice, too. Look out, Rolling Stone!"
"I think I'll always remember the encouragement I got from professors Mark Larson and Zoe Walrond. They understood that as a student, I was already working in the field I wanted to end up in and motivated me to stay with it."
