Atmosphere in Landscape Painting
July 8-12 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Instructor: Lien Truong
This workshop will focus on creating depth in landscape painting. An expanded primary and secondary palette will be introduced, and the study of value, color and chroma to create atmospheric perspective will serve as the foundation of our work by objectively observing light while subjectively using color.
Lectures and demonstrations will show students how to quickly sketch in a composition and reduce the landscape to blocks of color and value. Ideas will be shared on how to effectively make quick decisions to create structure, atmosphere and form.
This workshop is intended for persons committed to painting outdoors and will consist of indoor lecture and lab activity and as much outdoor painting as weather permits.
Supports and some experimental drawing and painting supplies will be provided. Students should bring tube oil, water-soluble oil, or acrylic paints in an expanded primary palette, palette, palette knives, brushes, rags, and containers of water or solvent for cleaning. A portable easel is highly recommended.
