Preparing For HOOP

See the dates and fees page for HOOP dates.

The Humboldt Online Orientation Program (HOOP) process includes multiple steps that you will complete from home as part of your online orientation experience. If you are using screen reading software, you will receive emailed instructions on navigating in Moodle.

Step 1. Signing into your HOOP course in Moodle at: https://learn.humboldt.edu. The mandatory HOOP course will not be visible to you until the official start date and time. HOOP will introduce you to key academic regulations and requirements as well as campus programs and services. Use your existing HSU login information, just as you would for logging into Student Center. If you’ve forgotten your user name or password, please visit http://
humboldt.edu/studentcenter/help.html.

Step 2. Completing the HOOP course
Once you’ve signed into Moodle, HOOP will appear under “My Courses.” Click on the name Humboldt Online Orientation Program, and you’ll be redirected to the HOOP area in Moodle to complete your online orientation course.

Step 3. Completing the HOOP survey
At the end of your HOOP you will see a link that reads "Go to HOOP survey." This survey must be completed in full and submitted in order to demonstrate that you've completed HOOP. Afterwards, your "HOOP registration hold" will be removed.

Step 4. Connecting with your HOOP advisor
During HOOP, you will see contact information for your HOOP advisor. This is the faculty member that is assigned to your academic major. After you have completed steps 1 through 3, you will need to connect with your HOOP advisor based on their stated method of communication. Once you've received advising, your advising hold will be removed.

Step 5. Class registration
Once HOOP and your advising are complete, all orientation-related holds will be removed from your account and you could be ready to register for your classes. We cover the registration process during HOOP. Feel free to return to your HOOP course for a refresher and any helpful tips as you sit down to register for classes.

The entire HOOP process can take up to one week to complete before you are cleared to register for classes at HSU.
