The conference begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and ends at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4.

Oral presentations will be organized into plenary, special and contributed sessions. An evening poster session will also be held.

Pre-conference workshops and field trips will be held Monday, Dec. 1.



Banquet

The annual Association for Fire Ecology Award Banquet will occur on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The featured speaker at the banquet will be Dr. Jan Van Wagtendonk, research forester, USGS, Western Ecological Research Center, Yosemite Field Station. His topic will be "Fire Ecology: From Art to Science to Practice."

During the banquet, the Student Association for Fire Ecology will present the Steward of Fire award to an outstanding undergraduate and graduate student for work performed within the geographic region of the conference [Nomination form, PDF], and an award for best student oral presentation [Oral Presentation Evaluation Criteria, PDF] and poster [Poster Evaluation Criteria, PDF].

Meetings

Planned meetings include:

  • Membership meeting - Association for Fire Ecology (Tuesday, Dec. 2 before the banquet), including a guest speaker
  • Membership meeting – California Association for Fire Ecology
  • Lunch meeting - Student Association for Fire Ecology (SAFE) and interested students (date to be arranged)
  • Evening Beach Bonfire for SAFE members
  • Board meeting - California Association for Fire Ecology (6 p.m., Dec. 1)
  • Board meeting - Association for Fire Ecology (Thursday, Dec. 4 late afternoon, and all day Friday Dec. 5
  • Meetings for Fire Use Modules (Monday, Dec. 1)
