Attending Humboldt State University and choosing to major in Physics has been one of the most important and beneficial decisions I have ever made. The faculty are fantastic educators, the curriculum is challenging and rewarding, it has intimate upper division class sizes, and there is ample opportunity to gain research experience if you want it.
I am currently getting started in the Doctoral Physics program at Portland State University.
Holly Edmundson, 2009
After graduating from HSU I went to grad school at University of Oregon where I got my Masters in Materials Science with an emphasis in Optics.
I got a job in the semiconductor industry. Humboldt’s physics program gave me a major advantage when it came to E&M, electronics and lab experience all of which I used regularly in grad school and still use in my ‘real job’.
Nathan Rasmussen, 2010
Going to HSU to study physics was the best decision I’ve made in my adult life. Not only did it give me confidence in my problem solving abilities, but the faculty is amazing. I was able to do research with Dr. Hoyle and not only publish a paper, but gave a conference talk and a few others about the research. I was hired to teach physics labs after graduation, and now I am about to start a PhD program at Washington State University. Studying at HSU has been an amazing experience!
Ronald Anderson, 2002
I work for Naval Shipyard doing Radiological work. Dosimetry tech at the moment.
Ellen Teresa Hall, 1994
I am living in Portland, Oregon with my family. I teach Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science to high school students. I am building on the excellent science education I received at HSU by taking prerequisites to go back to school to study evolutionary psychology. I loved going to school at Humboldt, and I visit the Arcata area with my family every chance I get.
