The Board of Trustees of the California State University allows campus presidents to nominate no more than two persons for an honorary degree in any given academic year.
The Honorary Degree Nominating Committee will serve as the campus review committee to invite, receive and evaluate campus recommendations for honorary degrees. The committee members will consist of:
Chair: Vice President, University Advancement
Type: Administrative
Meetings: As needed
Provost/Vice President, Academic Affairs
Dean, Research, Graduate Studies & International Programs
President, General Faculty
Chair, Academic Senate
President, Alumni Association
Faculty member (recommended by the Senate Appointments Committee for appointment by the President) (two-year term)
Dean (appointed by the Provost in consultation with the Senate Executive Committee) (two-year term)
President, Associated Students
The Honorary Degree Nominating Committee will solicit nominations for review from faculty, staff and alumni annually at the beginning of the fall semester. This process will be administered by University Advancement in accordance with the CSU Board of Trustees’ Guidelines. The guidelines are included in the attachment section of AA-2005-44, which can be viewed at http://www.calstate.edu/acadAff/codedmemos/index.shtml.
Recommendations will be forwarded to the President by mid-November.
All material pertaining to recommendations for honorary degrees will be handled as confidential.
