Humboldt State University
Psychology Department
The HSU Community Counseling Clinic is a low-cost source for counseling/psychotherapy services for HSU and for the broader Humboldt County community. Because the clinic is staffed by HSU Psychology faculty and graduate students, it operates on the HSU academic schedule. It is closed during holidays and breaks when HSU is not in regular session and is not open during the summer months.
The clinic provides counseling to individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children. Group counseling for adults may also be available. The clinic is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm - 5pm. and Wednesdays 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Fees are on a sliding scale, ranging from $5 to $25 per session, determined by financial need. In the event that the clinic cannot meet your needs, we will assist in making a more appropriate referral.
For more Information or to make an appointment, please call 707-826-3921.
The clinic is located on the second floor (room 208) of the Behavioral and Social Science Building (BSS) which is located on Union Street on the HSU Campus, a short distance from the northern entrance to the Arcata Community Forest, between 17th and 14th Streets. Ms. McCartney can arrange for free parking permits for community members. There is also metered parking on Union Street.
The clinic includes four therapy and interview rooms, a waiting room, recording and playback room, and office and conferencing space. Because the clinic is a university training center, most rooms have mounted video cameras for recording sessions so that faculty can review and provide feedback to trainees.
