Senior Honors Program

Attention Juniors!

Keep in mind that if you are planning to apply for admission to the Senior Honors Program you should make sure that you have the appropriate course work and number of credits by the end of your junior year. Please contact the Department Office if you have any questions.

For Seniors who wish to apply, download the application form. The deadline is noon on Friday, September 5.


Dr. Chester Collins Memorial Scholarship

Due to a donation by Mr. Glenn Berry on behalf of Dr. Chester Collins, the Department is able to award four scholarships per academic year to students who meet the award qualifications.

Qualifications, award recepients and scholarship applications are available online late in the Spring semester.

Dr. Brent Duncan served as President of the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP) for academic year 2002-2003.

Student Awards and Accomplishments

Elise Haas, an Academic Research graduate student, won the 2010 Hearst Memorial scholarship dedicated to students who have overcome great personal tragedy and have been resilient in the face of trauma, accomplishing great things, including high levels of academic rigor and community service. Elise was HSU's selection and then went on to compete with students from the entire CSU system. She was chosen as one of two final winners of the Hearst Scholarship.

Dr. Chester Collins Memorial Scholarship Award History
Lisa Forkner is the first winner of the scholarship and recieved $1,500 for educational expenses at HSU during the 2003-2004 year. She is a worthy first recipient of the scholarship with excellent credentials exceeding the 3.75 GPA reqiured for applying. She has been heavily involved in research projects with her professors, presented a first author poster at the Western Psychological Association and co-authored another. Lisa served as a teaching assistant, was president of the Psychology Club, and is a hardworking and dedicated student who has shown an exceptional interest in, and talent for psychology. She plans to apply to a PhD. program.

Class of 2003

Notable awards:

Kristine Schmukler won the Sally Casanova Scholarship, and was later accepted to 7 Ph.D. programs. The scholarship provided $4,000 to visit universities, attend conferences, and apply to schools. It also provided funds ($3,500) to do research over the summer at a UC campus.

Kristine Schmukler also won the CNRS Outstanding Scholar Award. Kristina is currently in the Social Psychology Graduate Program at UC Santa Cruz.

Sarah Lindsey was the winner of the HSU Outstanding Student Award.

Sarah Haag won a $300.00 Western Psychological Foundation Scholarship which are awarded to WPA Student Members who are the first author of their presentations. Awards are based on the blind ratings of abstracts by the Program Review Commmittee. Sarah is currently in the Counseling Psychology Graduate Program at the University of Iowa.

April Garcia received a Woolford-Hegy Rotary Scholarship to continue her graduate work at HSU for year, 2003-2004.

Amber Morton received a $5,000 Work/Study scholarship from the graduate division for her work with Dr. Wieand during 2003-2004.
