Professor Stephen C. Sillett, Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood Forest Ecology at Humboldt State University, is recognized as the foremost expert on redwood trees.
Dr. Richard Golightly's areas of focus include forest carnivore ecology and nesting ecology of Marbled Murrelets. Humboldt State's proximity to extensive wildlands, has led Dr. Golightly to embrace a diversity of land management issues.
The focus of Professor Varner's current research is evaluating the linkages among fuel properties, fire behavior, and subsequent fire effects.
Dr. Van Pelt has recently moved to Humboldt as an Adjunct Professor and Research Scientist for the new Institute for Redwood Ecology. Prior to this move he had been an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle where he studied the ecology of Douglas-fir, Sitka spruce, coast redwood, and giant sequoia forests.
