Install Antivirus Software

Computer viruses and malware can disrupt your computer in a variety of different ways, from silently stealing your personal information, to irreversibly destroying your files. They are most frequently transmitted through misleading websites, email attachments, instant messages, and peer-to-peer downloads. To guard against the spread of viruses and malware at Humboldt, ResNet requires that all connected computers have antivirus installed and running at all times.

Backup your work

Backing up your data can be critical to your success at Cal Poly Humboldt. We recommend that you regularly backup all of your work to a USB flash drive. Alternatively, GoogleMicrosoft, and Apple each offer file sync solutions that can automatically copy files between devices as well as store a backup of your work online. These services are free and offer 5GB - 7GB of storage. ResNet recommends Google drive because it is compatible with your Humboldt email address. Paid services, such as CrashPlan and Carbonite, will backup your entire computer online and offer more advanced features.
