HSU is a great place to work. The organizational culture is very welcoming and housing is like a family. Additionally, HSU students are extremely engaged and student apathy is relatively low. They produce some of the most innovative and socially-conscious ideas I’ve seen on a college campus.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

I’m an outdoor enthusiast and Humboldt is my playground. Backpacking is probably my favorite activity because there is a lot of wilderness to see here.

Working for this department is great. I really like that we are grounded in our values of social justice and environmental sustainability. They aren’t just buzzwords here. Our grounds crew does an amazing job keeping the campus looking beautiful. The people are so kind, welcoming, and genuine. I feel at home here.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

Even though I’ve only been here a short while, I have quite a few things I enjoy doing. For one, the Arcata Farmer’s Market is stellar. There are numerous locally owned restaurants; I haven’t found one I didn’t like. I am a frequent visitor of the library and bookstores in town. The opportunities to enjoy the outdoors are abundant; hiking, biking, running, and the beach are all within a short distance. Something else that sold me on the community was the amazing grocery stores: Wildberries and North Coast Co-Op.
