Usage

This is a student grade weight set, used for routine mass determinations in conjunction with an analytical balance. The quality of this set would indicate its intended use in beginning chemistry or physics courses. Such sets might also find use commercially for routine work.

An early description of Weights and their use is provided below:

Description

Class XX 50 gm - 1 mg weight set (Style No. 720) in a 5 3/4 x 3 3/8 x 1 1/2" mahogany box. The set is complete with: a brass forceps (replacement), gram weights of lacquered brass, fractional weights of non corrosive metal between 500 and 50 mg and aluminum for the smaller weights. There is a paper sticker on the bottom of the box:

The polished mahogony box is has a one piece solid bottom with black velvet lined weight holes, unlined forceps slot, and a Bakelite tray for mg weight. The lid is of mitered corner construction lined with black velvet. The box hardware is brass and a brass tag is attached to the bottom right end:
