Total Program Fees and Costs (see table below) consists of the following components:
Application fee: refundable if not accepted or the program cancels
Tuition: includes administrative expenses and academic credit
Transportation fee: includes all transportation during the program (van rental and fuel). Patricipants are to arrive by their own means in Santa Cruz on April 1. (Note that Sierra Institute does not arrange long-term parking for private autos.)
Academic fee: covers course reader, first aid supplies, campground and entrance fees, and some miscellaneous expenses.

The Sierra Institute and HSU Distance & Extended Education do not provide financial aid for their programs. However, if you already receive aid, it may be possible to apply it to Sierra Institute programs. Please refer to our financial aid section in general information.
Kenton Dornbush Scholarship
If you are applying for California Wilderness in the summer or spring and have a demonstrable financial need, you are invited to apply for a Kenton Dornbush Memorial Scholarship ($500). Complete application and send no later than the spring or summer program application due date.
