Having grown up in Humboldt County, the challenges and perspectives of working in rural communities are a key passion of mine. I graduated from Oberlin College with a self-designed major in Community-Based Education and returned to Humboldt to serve as an AmeriCorp member. I spent almost a decade providing training and support to volunteers serving children in the child welfare system, through local and state-wide CASA programs prior to receiving my MSW from Humboldt.  Currently I predominantly teach and provide support for distributed learning students. My passion is to participate in organizations that bring forward the voice of those with direct experience into the discussions that effect their lives and on-going policy development.

I am particularly interested in creating organizational structures which support the leadership and engagement of those served. I am invested in models of collaborative decision making, effective communication and building strong teams. I particularly have a strong knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of building effective models of volunteer engagement within rural non-profit organizations.
