The Association for Fire Ecology LogoPLENARY SESSIONS:

  • Fire in Southwest Ecosystems: History, Status, and Trends – Tuesday a.m.
  • Implications of Climate Change for Future Fire Management – Thursday p.m.

CONCURRENT SESSIONS:

There will be four concurrent tracks of papers from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Topics include:

  • Fire and Wildlife
  • Insects and Pathologens
  • Fuel and Fire Management/ Landscape Decision Processes
  • Invasive Plants and Fire
  • Fire and Restoration
  • Fire Ecology
  • Fire History/Fire Regimes
  • Social Issues and Fire Management Implications
  • Lessons Learned from Large Southwest Fires
  • Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation

SPECIAL SESSION:

Thursday morning: “Lessons Learned from Large Southwest Fires."

 

POSTER SESSION:

The Tuesday evening session will feature 60 posters on a variety of conference related topics. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a no-host bar.

 

SAFE ANNUAL MEETING:

The Student Association for Fire Ecology [SAFE] will hold its annual members meeting on Tuesday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

 

AFE ANNUAL MEETING:

The Association for Fire Ecology [AFE] will hold its annual members meeting on Wednesday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Obtain updates on AFE activities, and provide feedback, such as on the Registered Fire Ecologist Program AFE is developing.

 

BANQUET:

Join us for the Annual AFE Banquet. We will present two lifetime achievement awards, and awards to outstanding students.

Our featured speaker will be Dr. Tony Westerling, University of California, Merced, the lead author on the recent paper, “Warming and Earlier Spring Increase Western U.S. Forest Wildfire Activity.” (18 AUGUST 2006 VOL 313 SCIENCE). Dr. Westerling will discuss "Climate Change Impacts on Western Wildfire Regimes."
