Auditions for The von Humboldt Project
The intent of this project is to create a theatrical event and performance that will be part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Humboldt State University. The theatrical work will open in Nov 7 - 17, 2013 in the Van Duzer Theatre at HSU. This will be followed by three performances in Santiago, Chile as part of an international Von Humboldt conference Jan 5 – 10, 2014.
Alexander Von Humboldt, the namesake of HSU, was a rock star of his day. His book KOSMOS catapulted him to fame and he never even made it to Humboldt County. More things are named after him..species, plants, places, and universities that most people who have ever lived. Geographer, scientist, world traveler, botanist, author, man about town... he is a legend. And now he will be the centerpiece of a new theatre work never before seen.
An original work, devised by HSU students and guided by Michael Fields, producing artistic director of Dell'Arte, this will be a spectacular creation with music, song, movement, multiple languages, history, an amazing visual world and all woven together in a new piece of theater that will go from Arcata to Chile. Be a part of history......
**Auditions are Wednesday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Studio Theatre (TA 115)**
If interested in a singing role, please prepare a song no more than 32 bars long or under 1 minute. Speakers and an accompanist will be provided. You are welcome to sing a cappella.
*** It is not necessary to sing to be part of the Von Humboldt Project, but it wouldn't hurt, as this project will have some song, though it is not a musical. It is theatre work with music.A scene will be provided at the audition. If you have any questions, please contact the stage manager, Caitlin Volz, at firstname.lastname@example.org
There are many performance opportunities in our active production season. These opportunities include theatre, physical theatre, dance, and acting in films.
Our theatre program covers a variety of plays by the masters, contemporary playwrights, and student originals.
Dance performances include faculty and student choreography, with one mainstage production and two informal showings each year.
Physical theatre is featured through original work in different seasons.
Musicals, in collaboration with the music department, provide an array of opportunities for students every other year.
Film productions and screenings take place throughout the year with a special focus on the Humboldt Film Festival.
Film Productions happen year-round and include a range of opportunities for performers and technical crew of varying skill levels. Involvement in the Humboldt Film Festival is a great way for new students to meet people and join the film community.
