Program Description
The Quito Program is a 10-week full-immersion summer program offered exclusively by the Department of World Languages and Cultures to Humboldt State University students from all fields of study. Students from other universities and colleges, as well as community members, are also encouraged to apply.

This program follows the Humboldt State University summer Schedule and generally begins the last week in May and ends the first week of August. Interested students should apply in the spring semester preceding the program sion by completing the on-line application no later than the deadline provided by the Director.

Location
Ecuador [map] is located on the northwestern coast of South America. It is one of the smallest countries in the region, about the size of the state of Nevada. The continental territory of Ecuador borders Peru to the south and east (approx. 1,420 km), Colombia to the north (590 km) and the Pacific Ocean to the west (2,237 km of coastline) . Quito [more info], the capital, is located in the Andes Mountains at 9,500 feet above sea level and has a population of 1,620,000 inhabitants. It is the country's second largest city.

Program Highlights

  • Immerse yourself in the language and culture of a South American country--one of the most ecologically diverse countries on the planet.
  • Live with an Ecuadorian family.
  • Visit cultural and natural sites guided by Ecuadorian faculty.
  • All courses apply to the HSU Spanish major, minor, or HSU graduating electives.
  • Some courses apply to the following International Studies major concentrations: Latin American Studies, Globalization Studies, and Cultural Studies.
  • May use partial financial aid to cover all program related expenses.
Cost
Program cost varies from year to year due to changes in the Ecuadorian economy as well as Humboldt State University tuition changes.
