Center for Applied Social analysis and Education: CASAE is affiliated with the Practicing Sociology Master's Program. It is designed to train Practice Track graduate students in program evaluation and other skills, as well as to respond to community requests for questionnaire design, survey construction, and data analysis.
Center for Educational Excellence, Collaboration and Inquiry: The Center's purpose is to exemplify educational excellence through collaboration and educational inquiry that enhances the University's ability to support professional practice and student learning at all levels in the North Coast region. Specifically the Center developes partnerships with schools and districts to promote cutting-edge professional practice and regional technology to strengthen teaching, lerning, and professional development.
Institute for Cartographic Design: Affiliated with the Department of Geography and its Kosmos Lab for teaching cartography, the Institute for Cartographic Design is intended to provide cartography students with a transition for theoretical to applied map design before graduation and to provide a centralized cartographic design services on campus specializing in cartographic and information design in all formats from paper to web to animation.
Institute for Ecological Tourism: The Institute for Ecological Tourism's purpose is to promote wise stewardship of natural resources through carefully planned and executed tourism development which emphasizes education and research while assuring minimal impact on natural and cultural resources. It is supported by grants and funds from an online cuorse given as part of Extended Education.
Institute for Emerging Technologies in Learning: Affiliated with the Department of Computing Science, the Institute studies and implements the use of multimedia and distance elarning technologies within new learning environments, including university curricula, extended and distance education, continuing education for professionals and public school settings. Areas of implementation also include tele-medicine and health education.
Institute for Forest Canopy Research: The Institute for Forest Canopy Research is dedicated to research in forest canopy ecosystems, particularly in the Pacific Northwestern United States in old growth redwood forests, douglas fir forests, montane pine and fir forests, and temperate coniferous rainforests ranging from Northern California to British Columbia. The structure and disturbance responses of insect communities in these complex forest habitats are of particular interest.
Institute for Industrial Technology: The IIT, a student-started and student-run enterprise affiliated with the Industrial Technology Department, produces several items such as art easels, children's art easels, recycling bins, and other custom work. The IIT's primary goal is to provide students with the opportunity to apply educational theories and concepts to a business enterprise.
Institute for River Ecosystems: The purpose of IRE is to foster preservation of running water ecosystems and their watersheds through collaborative research, graduate education, and the dissemination and synthesis of information. Specifically, collaborative interactions are fostered through the forum of the Watershed Ecology Team (WET), which involves HSU faculty and graduate students, scientists from federal and state agencies, and members of regional consulting firms, natural resource companies, and Tribes.
Institute for the Study of Alternative Dispute Resolution: The ISADR is a conflict resolution training, education, and research institute that offers professional mediation training through a certificate program in Extended Education. Northern California Institute of Marine Sciences: NCIMS reflects the collaboration of the departmtnes of Biology, Fisheries Biology, and Oceanography. Its purpose is to facilitate interdisciplinary projects among faculty in the marine sciences and to foster the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge of marine systems with a focus on coastal northern California. It encourages effective collaboration among HSU faculty and students, professional marine scientists, agencies, and organizations concerned with the investigation, management, and/or conservation of the marine environment.
Schatz Energy Research Center: SERC, affiliated with HSU's Environmental Resources Engineering Program, works to establish clean and renewable energy technologies in our society. SERC builds and designs prototype proton exchange membrane fuel cells and provides energy education from K-12 through graduate school. Its purpose is to promote a shift from fissil fuels to renewable energy sources (solar, wind, and hydropower) and to develop the technology to use these resources so that renewable energy becomes reliable and affordable.
