Subject:      Preview for New Standard Software in Interdisciplinary Technology Facilities

Academic Computing staff is preparing for the Fall 2004 Standard Software upgrades and additions. Installation in the Interdisciplinary Technology Facilities is being planned for Summer 2004 and scheduled to go live for Fall 2004 term. The intent is to give sufficient time for advanced planning and testing by faculty.

New versions of software for the Windows environment have recently been released. Those versions are; Minitab 14, Office 2003 Professional, Office FrontPage 2003, SPSS 12 and Visual Studio.NET (version 2003). Mac OS X version 10.3.1 (Panther) was released late in October with a number of updates; Finder, Preview and Safari. The Fall 2004 Interdisciplinary Software List can be found at the following link: http://www.humboldt.edu/~ac/labsftwr.shtml

Academic Computing has developed a two-station test site (one each) for Windows XP and Mac OS X. The location of these stations is Gist Hall 218. This site enables faculty to come test new software in a similar environment as what will be installed in the Interdisciplinary Technology Facilities. We are interested in faculty input about the proposed platforms and have made these test systems available for faculty and student use. These stations will be available for testing and general usage for the remainder of the Spring term.

If you have any questions about this project please contact the System Manager for the facility where you teach or Academic Computing, ext.4200.
