Subject: New Hardware for HGH105 and LB121 Facilities
We are planning to replace some Macintosh labs with PC labs. Early planning
settled upon an 80/20 ratio of PC's to Macintoshes based on demand. It has
always been a facilities usage issue with the dual mode Macintosh systems; but
the slowness of the PC platform there has become problematic.
There have been tremendous requests for PC facilities, particularly in the
Library and HGH105 computer labs.
With this is mind, over the Summer 2003 term, HGH105 and LB121
facilities are scheduled to have new HP/Compaq computers installed.
This project is expected to be completed this summer barring any unforeseen
technical problems, budgetary difficulties, and committee approval.
There are issues concerning departmental software located on the current
computers in HGH105. We have
noticed much of this software
appears to have been idle for a year or more. Once currently needed department
software is identified; it would be important to know if that software can run
in the PC environment.
If there are any questions and/or concerns related to this project, please do
not hesitate to contact Rocky Waters, System Manager for LB121 and HGH105 at
x4208.
