Emeritus Faculty at HSU: The HSU Faculty Handbook, Section 540, describes the process of conferring emeritus status at HSU and the rights and privileges of emeritus faculty on campus. Emeritus faculty have the same rights as active faculty members for the use of university facilities and attendance at university functions. To the extent that resources permit, these rights include, but are not limited to the following: participation in academic ceremonies and university social life; library borrowing privileges, access to university computer systems and media services; maintenance of Email accounts, grant support through the HSU Sponsored Programs Foundation, contracting with the University for teaching or other services; secretarial and technician assistance; and insofar as space allows, use of an office on campus.
Parking: The following change to the parking policy was made 6/5/09: Pursuant to direction from the HSU President, HSUPD/Parking will issue to requesting emeritus HSU faculty a parking permit granting that individual member the special privilege of parking a vehicle in certain designated campus parking lots without charge. Before issuing the permit, HSUPD/Parking shall confirm the retired faculty member’s status as “emeritus” by cross-checking the member’s identification with the current official HSU emeritus roster.
The emeritus parking permit grants the individual member the right to park in General or Faculty/Staff lots only. The permit is to be used by the emeritus faculty member only, and use by persons other than the emeritus faculty member may result in a citation, seizure of the permit, and/or revocation of the right to receive an emeritus permit.
