University Faculty Personnel Committee

Newsletter 1
August 2003

Welcome back to the new semester! In the past, the University Faculty Personnel Committee (UFPC) has provided periodic newsletters as part of an effort to maintain open and clear communication with the faculty regarding personnel matters. We are pleased to continue this practice. In the process, you will notice a healthy introduction to many of the acronyms associated with the personnel process.

With this first newsletter for the new academic year, we are providing two items of information:

a.There is a new UFPC web site that has been completed by Greta in the Academic Senate office; the URL is http://www.humboldt.edu/~acadsen/UFPC/ufpcindex.htm.Among other items, the site includes a copy of the revised Personnel Data Sheet (PDS) that can be downloaded by candidates undergoing evaluations as part of the Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) process, a checklist useful in preparing the Working Personnel Action File (WPAF), a copy of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), a copy of HSU’s specific personnel policies summarized in Appendix J (tenure-track faculty) and Appendix K (Lecturers), and annual reports from recent years. We greatly appreciate Greta’s work to make this site available.

b.We also are holding an informational meeting on September 10 for interested members of the HSU community about the RTP process. We welcome candidates, members of the Initiating Unit Personnel Committees (IUPCs), department chairs, academic support staff, college personnel committee members, and all other interested members of the faculty and administration. The meeting will be held from 4 to 5:30 pm in Music 130.We will introduce this year’s UFPC members, briefly outline the role of the UFPC, address current interpretations and application of Appendix J, and do our best to address questions raised by those attending.

We wish you the very best for this coming academic year, and welcome your contacting us if we can provide further information or assistance.
