WHEREAS, Certain expenses necessary for the functioning
of the University traditionally have fallen to the General Faculty treasury
for payment; and
WHEREAS, These expenses are associated with elections,
notices, newsletters, social events, and recognition of collegial events
(retirements, illnesses, bereavement, etc.); and
WHEREAS, The source of funds for the General Faculty
treasury is a voluntary dues payment of $2 per year, that amount having
been established many years in the past; and
WHEREAS, A $2 payment per year is insufficient
to meet any but the most basic expenditures, is inadequate to provide proper
recognition for retirements, and provides for no social event schedule
at all; therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of Humboldt State University recommend that the General Faculty vote on the question of increasing dues to $10.00 per year, effective AY 99-00.
