WHEREAS, The present term of office for officers
of the HSU General Faculty is one year; and
WHEREAS, There has been an increase in the number
of campus and system issues which carry forward from year to year; and
WHEREAS, The effectiveness of faculty participation
in university governance can be inhibited by having a yearly turnover of
faculty officers due to the inevitable adjustment periods for those professors
new to the committees and boards on which faculty officers serve; and
WHEREAS, Conditions in the CSU and HSU require
that faculty officers be able to bring to bear maximum levels of understanding
and persuasion regarding issues of broad and deep significance; therefore,
be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of Humboldt
State University recommend that the General Faculty vote on the question
of changing the term of office for General Faculty President, Secretary,
and Treasurer from one year to two years, effective AY 99-00.
