A&S+Prof/SGC: Arts & Science plus professions, some graduate coexistence

*Text from the Carnegie Web site is in italic

Sixty to 79 percent of bachelor’s degree majors were in the arts and sciences, and graduate degrees were observed in some of the fields corresponding to undergraduate majors (but less than half).

Students have made art and biology HSU’s biggest programs, while business administration, elementary education, English, kinesiology, nursing, psychology and wildlife are also among the most popular programs.

Postbac-Comp: Postbaccalaureate comprehensive

According to the degree data, these institutions award master’s degrees in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM* fields, and degrees in one or more professional fields.

HSU currently offers 48 undergraduate programs, 84 minors, 82 options/concentrations, 12 graduate programs, 21 credential programs and several certificates of study.

Enrollment Profile: Very High Undergraduate

Fall enrollment data show both undergraduate and graduate/professional students, with the latter group accounting for less than 10 percent of FTE* enrollment.

As of Fall 2007, HSU has6,760 undergraduate students and 1,013 graduate students for a total student population of 7,773.

Undergraduate Profile: FT4/S/HTI: Full-time four year, selective, high transfer-in

Fall enrollment data show 60-79 percent of undergraduates enrolled full-time at these bachelor’s-degree granting institutions. Score data for first-year student indicate that these institutions are selective in admission (our analysis of first-year student’s test scores places most of these institutions in roughly the middle two-fifths of baccalaureate institutions). At least 20 percent of entering undergraduates are transfer students.

For the 2007/08 term, 13,892 applications were processed, while slightly more than 18 percent, or 2,587, enrolled. Roughly 12 percent, or 927 new students, were transfers from other institutions.

M4/NR: Medium four-year, primarily nonresidential

Fall enrollment data show FTE enrollment of 3,000–9,999 degree-seeking students at these bachelor’s degree granting institutions. Fewer than 25 percent of degree-seeking undergraduates live on campus (includes exclusively distance education institutions).

For the 2007/08 term, 1,410 students, or 18.1 percent of the student body, lived in campus housing.

Basic: Master’s/M: Master’s Colleges and Universities (medium programs)

Generally includes institutions that award at least 50 master's degrees and fewer than 20 doctoral degrees per year. (Some institutions above the master's degree threshold are included among Baccalaureate Colleges, and some below the threshold are included among Master's Colleges and Universities; see Technical Details.) Excludes Special Focus Institutions and Tribal Colleges.

HSU currently offers 48 undergraduate programs, 84 minors, 82 options/concentrations, 12 graduate programs, 21 credential programs and several certificates of study.
