Part-Time Faculty Pool
Part-Time Faculty Pool Recruitment Process:
Each department maintains a year-round pool of applicants interested in teaching part-time as a lecturer or working as a coach, librarian or counselor. The deadline for applications is April 1st each year. Applications received by that date will receive full consideration for work available in the upcoming academic year. Applications received after April 1st will be added to the pool and considered if a course or assignment becomes available for which there are no other qualified applicants in the pool. Application materials are kept on file for three years. After that time, a new application is required.
Note for Lecturer applicants: After assigning courses to permanent faculty, academic departments identify courses that are available for assignment to lecturers. Most of the available courses are assigned to currently employed lecturers. However, courses do become available either because currently employed lecturers do not have the required qualifications for unassigned courses, or because of last minute resignations, faculty leaves, release time projects and other unanticipated events.
Click on Part-time Faculty Opportunities to see each department’s list of courses or assignments and required minimum qualifications. Minimum qualifications consist of the academic degree, experience and academic preparation necessary to teach the course or fulfill the assignment successfully. Courses or assignments with similar minimum qualifications are grouped together. Please note that lecturers are often assigned lower-division courses (those numbered in the 100 and 200 series); however, upper-division and graduate courses do become available and may be assigned to qualified lecturers.
All courses or assignments listed will not be available for new temporary faculty; however, any assignment might become available owing to unanticipated circumstances. Therefore, we encourage all interested and qualified candidates to submit an application to the part-time temporary faculty pool and indicate those courses for which they have the interest and qualifications to teach (for lecturers), or the assignment for which they are interested and qualified (for coaches, librarians, counselors). The department’s address and contact information are listed at the bottom of the course or assignment list. Specific questions regarding course content, required qualifications or additional application materials should be addressed directly to the department.
To apply, please submit the appropriate application form with the requested application materials directly to the department. A separate application form is required for each department to which you are applying.
