Field Trips
Self-Guided Trip: Local Hotspots for Viewing Mammals and other Wildlife
Humboldt County and the surrounding environs is one of the most scenic and biologically rich areas in North America! We hope you’ll have the chance to spend some time exploring the region before or after ASM 2004. There are lots of opportunities to view local mammals, including harbour seals, sea lions, cetaceans and elk. Click here for a PDF with driving directions to these local hotspots and a printable map of the area.
Marine Mammal Fieldtrip
Both marine mammal fieldtrips are now full. Please contact the HSU Office of Extended Education at extended@humboldt.edu if you would like to be put on a waiting list as an altenate in case of cancelations.
We will be offering two marine
mammal field trips aboard the HSU research vessel, the R/V Coral Sea.
One trip will be on Saturday June 12th and the other Thursday June 17th,
2004. These
trips will be led by a marine mammalogist from HSU and will last from about
7am - 2pm. Among the more common local marine mammals are harbor seals,
California and Stellar's sea lions, gray whales, humpback whales, and harbor
porpoises, with a chance to see other less common species as well. Space
is limited and will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Price
of the trip is $65/person.
