Summary of research
My current research in the Neotropics involves macrofungal surveys and alpha-taxonomic description of basidiomycetes and
ascomycetes, the development of local myco-florulas, and comparison of the structure and functional roles of fungal communities
in forests of the Guiana Shield. Also under investigation are the roles that ectomycorrhizal associations have in structuring
tree communities in tropical rain forests. Additionally, I am documenting uses of fungi by indigenous peoples of northeastern
Amazon region, including Guyana and Brazil. Closer to the home front we are currently developing projects investigating the
effects of land management practices on macrofungal communities in coastal forests of Northern California.
