
Add Laptop to the Network
- Discover the Ethernet Address of your Network Card (instructions here.)
- Discover and record the wall jack # (instructions here)
- Register the laptop on the AHSS network via our form here.
Once registered on the network, you must do the following to enable the network to work automatically. Follow the instructions for your appropriate operating system.
Windows XP
- Click the Start button, and select the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, click Network Connections.
- In the Network Connections window, right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.
- In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option and select Properties.
- In the TCP/IP Properties window, click the option Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Click Ok.
Windows 2000
- On the Desktop, locate and right-click the My Network Places icon and select Properties
- In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties .
- In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option and select Properties .
- In the TCP/IP Properties window, select the options Obtain an IP address automatically
- Click OK.
Macintosh OS X
*Note that you may have to type in the system administrator password to make modifications to the system preferences.
- Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner and select System Preferences .
- Click on the Network icon found either on the top row of the screen or from the Internet & Networking area of system preferences.
- Select the device that you want to configure and click Configure . This will bring up the configuration page for the device.
- Click on the tab labeled tcp/ip which will bring up the tcp/ip configuration.
- From the drop down menu located next to "configure IPv4" select Using DHCP .
- Click on Apply Now. You have now configured the chosen interface for DHCP.
